THEDON, Inc. is proud to present Fight Night at the Sabre Room, an amateur boxing card sanctioned by USA Boxing, on May 28, 2008 at the Sabre Room, 8900 W. 95th St., Hickory Hills, Il 60457. The doors open at 7 p.m. and the boxing action starts at 8 p.m. This marks the 37th event in this series, the longest running monthly amateur boxing showcase in the Midwest.

Fight Night began in January of 2005 and continues to offer local athletes a chance to show their skills. Our May card of fights features exciting action with the Midwest’s top amateur boxers, including many stars from the recent Golden Gloves tournament, live at the Sabre Room. Ticket prices are $20 VIP Ringside, $15 Reserved Seating and $10 General Admission. Fornuto: This One's 4 Taylor

I think too many folks are picking Pavlik, thinking this will be an easier bout than the 1st one. Had Taylor landed one or two more shots, we'd be talking about how great he is instead of "will he win".

The weight difference from 160 to 168 tells me Pavlik, even if he loses, will keep his all important title, which will bring about another payday with Taylor (if Taylor wins).

Pavlik has been with his coach since he was 9 years old, thru thick and thin, Taylor thought bringing in Emanual Steward was the answer, it wasn't. Now he's with HIS original trainer, perhaps this will bring him that little edge that he needed in the 1st bout.

I remember Pavlik from the amateur regionals (we're both in Region 2), and his articles stating that when he fought black guys, how they would smile and state "I got me some white meat" which meant they had an easy victory..........until Pavlik handed them their heads......this kid is as tough as they come.

I feel this is a nice payday for both fighters, I wonder if Taylor should of taken a tune-up bout before this.

Any other day I would be laying the house on Pavlik, but for some reason, I see Taylor winning a close, maybe disputed decision, setting up the REAL fight, at 160 for Pavlik's title.

LENZA: WHY THE GHOST WINS AGAIN

Not too many fights get us excited like this one, but we are forced to predict a winner as we talk about the showdown between Jermain Taylor and Kelly Pavlik this weekend. After careful consideration, it is THEDON's opinion that Pavlik will win by a late KO in Round 8.
With the weight at a higher level, actually now a super middle showdown, Pavlik faces a slower, questionable Taylor who, without his title, the prospect of winning one, or any chance at being as big a star, faces only a hard fight against a man he knows can take his punch and come back and knock him out.
I see Pavlik avoiding the traps of a counterpunching Taylor and a hard, not entirely clean fight. As the rounds pile up, Taylor weakens and eventually fades because A)his corner will not be able to advise him as to how to beat Pavlik: B)he will not feel as though he can finish Pavlik, who will be stronger with the extra weight and C)Pavlik, motivated by a championship heart and his desire to stay unbeaten champ, will prove too strong for a mentally and physically weaker Jermain Taylor than the first one.

We ran the streets today with the best of them, visiting our friends at Park Printing, Joe's Italian Villa and Lindy's and Gertie's in Bridgeview. Kinda broke stride after that Bacon Double Cheeseburger at Lindy's. Great sandwich with home cut fries, but needed a nap. Didn't have time though as we were off to our new sponsor, Jeremiah P. This month’s boxing extravaganza marks a new feature in THEDON’s promotional format, featuring the very best talent in amateur boxing in special “main event” style contests. The co-main event for September 26th will feature Paul Littleton vs. Luai Hasan and Tracy Rollins vs. Ramon Valenzuela, Jr.. Also featured will be Heavyweight sensation Theron Johnson. The two featured bouts focus on the best super middleweights in amateur boxing and are the precursor to a tournament at the Sabre Room in 2008.

The first annual Summer SlugFest featured some great bouts out in Lockport today, including stellar performances by many of amateur boxing's brightest stars from Scottsdale Park, Smak Fitness and the legendary Matadors. A special appearance by Louie Lomeli (who still looks like he could fight) brought fans to their feet, as did the action, which raised monies for Homer Athletics. Promoter Don Lenza even got a Stallions hat, and he loves hats.

From all early reports, things are really heating up as fighters and fans alike prepare for the Showdown at Coach's Corner, THEDON's first promotional effort at Coach's Corner at 8116 W. 143rd in Orland Park.
Brisk early tickets sales and responses from the top gyms in the area lead to everything shaping up nicely for what should be some hot fun in the summer heat.

Promoter Don Lenza Visits Fistlaw Academy

Don Lenza went to Downers Grove this weekend to check on the progress of young fighters as they prepared to compete in THEDON's upcoming boxing events.
One of the finest new training centers in the Chicago Southland, Fistlaw Academy fighters have become a new regular at Fight Night at the Sabre Room. Promoter Lenza and Fistlaw's Coach Miller discussed boxing, sports, training methods and the future efforts of both their endeavors.
"Fistlaw is an excellent example of how a proper training discipline can lead to success for athletes in and out of the ring. I cannot express how happy I am to work with them and expect to enjoy a long collaboration.", Lenza said of his visit.

Congratulations to Jabb's Samantha Guzman (106lb.) and Scottsdale Parks Elvia Rubio (189lb.) for winning their respective National Championships at the Female Golden Gloves last week in Hollywood,FL.

Scottsdale's Tiffany Perez (119lb.) defeated #1 Nationally ranked Christina Cruz in her 1st bout and lost a close one to the eventual winner Jacylyn Trevilino of NY.
